Lenka Kroupova from Masaryk University has written about THE Question that all of us get asked, her response and how that relates to what she experienced at eltforum 2013.
— Teacher, may I ask a question?
– asked my student in a surprisingly sheepish voice. There was something in his face which made me quite sure he wouldn´t be asking about prepositions. He was asking the „Question“.
I´ve developed a sharp sense of distinguishing „questions“ and „Questions“ in the classroom. By „questions“ I mean all course content related matters and by „Questions“ all those non-class related. These are those my students are most eager to ask, ranging topically from my opinion about other members of the teaching staff, chances of having the class taught in the school yard since it´s sunny and lazy, to putting off an exam, or any other life and death questions which require the right moment and atmosphere to be asked.
— Go ahead, ask one. – I answered, on full alert.
